Registering a Birth - latest update

Government have told us that we can begin the process of opening for birth registrations.

Following a number of changes to Hendon Town Hall to ensure the safety of all staff and visitors:

  • we are now able to register some births
  • we will first carry out registrations for those who had cancelled appointments due to COVID-19.

Please do not contact us if your baby’s birth was after 15 May 2020.

There is a large backlog of appointments for registrations so please bear with us, as we restore services.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation during the pandemic and recovery.

If you have a new registration to make

At this time, we are able to register births for any babies born on or before 15 May 2020.

If your baby was born within this time frame, we will have written to you inviting you to book an appointment.

If you have not received a letter from us yet, you will still be able to book an appointment.

Book your appointment

To book an appointment, please call 020 8359 6400.

What you need to bring to your appointment

Check what information you need when registering a birth and what you need to take with you to your appointment.

Attending birth registration appointments

Due to social distancing measures at Hendon Town Hall, we ask that only the required number of informants attend the appointment:

  • If you and the baby’s natural father/parent are married to each other, only one of you should attend the appointment
  • If you are not married to each other and you want the natural father/parent’s details recorded, then it will be necessary for you both to attend.

We strongly advise that you do not bring the baby or any other children to the appointment with you.

We are no longer taking certificate fees during appointments. If you would like to obtain certificates on the day, you will need to pre-pay for these whilst booking your appointment.

If you are late for you appointment, you will not be able to register and will be required to re-book another appointment.
