Barnet Council, along with our partners, including Re, The Barnet Group and Cambridge Education, are relocating to a new office on Bristol Avenue, Colindale over the next few months.
Having been based at Barnet House, Whetstone and North London Business Park, New Southgate in recent years, the move will bring most council services together under one roof in the heart of one of London’s key regeneration areas.
Staff began moving in May and service moves are ongoing. There will be no disruption to services, they will operate at existing locations right up until the move, then they will be accessed from the new office.
If you currently access council services directly at Barnet House, you will be able to see the dates when these services will move to Colindale here. This page will be updated as more moving dates are confirmed.
You can find information on getting to the new office, including maps, public transport links, parking and disabled access.
Benefits of the new office
The move to Colindale will bring many benefits to residents, the local area and the council, including:
Serving our residents
The move will place our services in a location that is easier for most of our residents to access. The building has been purpose-built to support new ways of working that will enable us to provide better customer service. A new Costa Coffee, open seven days a week and accessible to the public, will open at the office in the autumn and meeting spaces will be available to hire.
The new building enables more efficient, modern ways of working and will be cheaper to run. We have already made cost savings by minimising the size of the building. We estimate that the move will save approximately £1m in accommodation costs every year.
Supporting regeneration and growth
Based in one of our key regeneration areas, the move will also bring further growth, improvements and opportunities to the area. With 2,000 staff based at Colindale, opportunities will be created for local business growth. We also plan to create a landscaped square in front of the office, with ambitions to provide a regular world food market for residents to enjoy.
The building has been designed to be more efficient and more environmentally friendly. We are encouraging our staff to by swap their cars for public transport and introducing initiatives such as car-pooling and pool bikes as more sustainable modes of travel.
