Garden waste collections
Sign up and pay for the garden waste service if you need your garden waste bin emptied.
The Councils fortnightly chargeable garden waste service year started on 9 May 2020 and will run for 12 months.
Autumn special offers
We have two autumn special offers for you if you haven’t already signed up for the service:
You can now sign up for fortnightly collections between 24 October and 2 May 2021 for just £40 for your first bin and £30 for each additional bin.
Your sticker will be valid from 24 October once placed on your bin lid, until the end of the service year. This will be around 11 fortnightly collections if you sign up by 11 October.
If you do not wish to sign up to the service and don’t want your garden waste bin we can remove it for you. Each bin costs £10 to remove whether it is full with garden waste or empty.
Why collections have changed
We will be reinvesting money raised into environmental services around the borough, investing in roads and pavements, improving our street cleaning operations, fitting LED bulbs to street lights and helping to make much-needed cost savings for the council.
217 UK authorities now charge annually for garden waste bin collections. This includes all of our neighbouring boroughs, who have also moved to fortnightly collections for refuse. Whilst we have moved to chargeable garden waste collections, unlike our neighbours we will be sticking to the weekly collections of both black and blue bins.
How the service works
The paid for fortnightly service will run for 12 months and we will make around 23 collections over the year. There will be an annual six week pause to collections (three fortnightly collections) each year over winter.
If you sign up part way through the year, you'll receive a reduced number of collections.
Your fortnightly collection will start on a Saturday.

Annual winter pause 2020/21
Collections will pause for six weeks between 5 December 2020 and 15 January 2021
Your last fortnightly collection will take place before the pause begins. This will be on 21 November or 28 November.
From 30 November you can check your next collection day following the pause

Stickers for green garden waste bins
When you sign up for the service you will get 1 sticker for every green garden waste bin you pay to have collected.
Your sticker will be valid for 12 months from the start of the service year.
We will aim to post your sticker to you within 10 working days of you signing up and paying for the service.
Please place your sticker on the centre of your garden waste bin lid so it can be clearly seen.
Your sticker will have your address on it.
Why we have stickers for bins
The stickers show our collection crews you have paid to have your garden waste collected.
Only Barnet issued green-coloured garden waste bins with a sticker will be emptied.
