An evening with Vivienne Cato
Wednesday 30 June from 7pm to 8pm
Barnet libraries in association with Generation2Generation present: An evening with Vivienne Cato talking about her Holocaust survivor mother Eva Cato.
This presentation by Eva's daughter, Vivienne, will discuss the key points of Eva's story using footage of Eva recorded in 1992, by the British Library with Yale University as part of their Holocaust testimony project.
Reading Friends Group
Our weekly Reading Friends group meets to talk about books and reading. Sessions are informal and no reading is required in advance. Join our friendly get together online on Thursdays at 11am.

On 10 June, EmpathyLab hosted an Empathy Day of exciting and creative online events and home-based celebrations to help children read, connect and act using empathy.
Authors, illustrators, schools, libraries and families across the country took part in this fun packed programme of activities.

As we can’t run our usual LEGO clubs in our libraries currently, we’ve decided to move it online instead! Every fortnight, we will be setting you a challenge to make something out of your LEGO or Duplo.
Our LEGO challenge is set once a fortnight on Saturdays at 9am.

Micro:bit Music Jukebox
Learn how to code music for the micro:bit and make your own micro:bit music jukebox with Barnet libraries STEM club!
Children aged 8 years and over can borrow a micro:bit for free from Barnet libraries through our Select and Collect service, or just follow along with the coding!
Events for Early Years
We are currently running free regular live online events for babies and toddlers.
From 14 June 2021 we will also be piloting some free face to face activities at Chipping Barnet Library.
Baby Rhyme Time (face to face) at Chipping Barnet Library
We are running a 6 week pilot of Baby Rhyme time sessions in line with current COVID-19 guidelines.
As we will be singing, we are only allowed 5 adults at each session. This means that:
- each ticket allows entry for 1 adult. The adult must be accompanied by 1 or 2 children
- we are operating a waiting list system so if you book a place and are unable to come, please cancel so that we can offer your place to another family
These sessions are free. Please read the full COVID-19 information when you book.
2 sessions are running on Mondays. They will take place at 10.45am and 11.45am
Baby Bounce Online
A virtual rhyme and story session for non-walkers designed to encourage parent and baby engagement with tickling, clapping and peek-a-boo rhymes.

Toddler Rhyme Online
A virtual singing, rhyme and story session for active toddlers. It is designed to be safe, fun, engaging and as interactive as possible without being in the same room.

A free online rhyme and story event to support early numeracy.
Story and Craft event
Wednesday 14 July at 10.30am
A free face to face Storytime and Craft event at Chipping Barnet Library.
This is a pilot event run in line with current government guidelines for libraries.
Places must be booked in advance.
We have useful and helpful reading lists which supports you to understand and manage your health and wellbeing.
The books are all recommended by health experts, as well as people with lived experience of the conditions and topics covered and their relatives and carers.
Join us for rhyme times, storytimes and take part in our craft activities at home.
