COVID-19 impact on this service
Due to Tier 4 restrictions, group citizenship ceremonies are suspended until further notice. We will contact any customers affected to re-arrange ceremonies and offer alternatives.
We are only able to offer private citizenship ceremonies at Hendon Town Hall. Only the citizen is allowed to attend these ceremonies and must wear a face covering.
If you are in receipt of your Home Office invitation letter, please call us on 020 8359 2074 to arrange your ceremony. We are aware that the Home Office are addressing their backlog, and would ask you to only contact us if you have had an invitation letter.
Cancelling or rescheduling your ceremony due to COVID-19
The Coronavirus pandemic has not ended, the virus is still present in the population.
It may be necessary to cancel and/or reschedule ceremonies at short notice due to changes in government restrictions, local lockdowns or the need for our staff to self-isolate.
By booking during the pandemic, you agree that you understand and accept the risk of late notice cancellations and/or rescheduling. We aim to give customers as much notice as possible.
If you are part of a group citizenship ceremony, we will contact you to reschedule for the next available date.
If you have booked a private citizenship ceremony, we will give you the option of rescheduling at a later date or receiving a full refund.
We will contact any affected customers as soon as possible if there are any changes to service provision.
Invitation to book your citizenship ceremony
You will be sent a letter from the Home Office inviting you to book your citizenship ceremony when:
- your application for citizenship is successful
- you’re over 18.
The letter will give you instructions on how to book your ceremony and what documentation you'll need to bring on the day.
You will need to make sure you book your place(s) on a citizenship ceremony before the invitation expires. If an invitation has expired (or will expire before you or a member of your group can attend a ceremony) then you will need to contact the Home Office.
If you are under 18 you do not have to attend the ceremony, your parents can collect certificates on your behalf.
What you should bring to the ceremony
- your original invitation letter from the Home Office
- your passport or photo ID.
We can not include you in the ceremony without seeing these documents, you must bring them with you.
In line with government guidance, face coverings should be worn if you are attending a ceremony at Hendon Town Hall.
At the ceremony
- you’ll swear or affirm an oath of allegiance to the Crown and make a pledge to uphold UK values and laws
- you’ll be presented with a certificate of British citizenship and a welcome pack
- professional photographs will be taken and will be available to purchase.
You are welcome to bring 2 guests to celebrate this special occasion with you.
