We have invested £5 million into upgrading Silkstream Park and Montrose Playing Fields - transforming these two parks into amazing places that can be enjoyed by all.
Keep checking this page for all the latest updates about our investment in your parks and open spaces.
The new Silkstream Park playground is now open. It features a climbing frame, slide, seesaw, swings, roundabout and more.
You will also find new benches, picnic tables, new litter bins and pathways.
A new wetland area will fill with water whenever the Silk Stream Brook overflows, reducing the risk of flooding to nearby properties downstream and creating a wetland habitat for wildlife. A bridge across the wetland area will allow you to get closer to the birds and other wildlife that it attracts.
Montrose Playing Fields
We are just kitting out a new building in Montrose Playing Fields that will be called The Hub. It will contain a cafe, changing rooms, public toilets and a multi-use studio for children’s parties, parent and- oddler groups and other events.
An ‘Active Zone’ in Montrose Playing Fields, next to Unitas Youth Zone, will feature two tennis courts, table tennis tables, parkour area, basketball court and an outdoor gym.
A skate park has been installed nearby, ready to be opened as soon as nearby landscaping works are finished.
Unitas, Barnet Youth Zone
The facilities are next-door to the state-of-the-art Unitas, Barnet Youth Zone, which opened in summer 2019.
It houses a four-court sports hall, gym, an all-weather pitch, a music room with recording suite, and more.
The Youth Zone is open seven days a week with different sessions for juniors (8-12) and seniors (13-19 and up to 25 for those with additional needs). It costs £5 for an annual Unitas membership, after which young people pay just 50p for each visit.
