COVID-19 Outbreak. Council Tax services are currently operating a reduced service.
You can make a one-off payment, or set up regular payments, where the cost of your bill is split into 10 monthly payments. You can extend this to 11 or 12 months if that makes it easier for you to manage.
We may send you a text message reminding you that your council tax bill is due.
Make monthly Council Tax payments
You can pay on the 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th or 25th of the month. You can cancel this arrangement at any time.
You can pay in 10, 11 or 12 instalments. This will only apply to your main bill issued in April. For other bills, you will automatically receive the maximum number of instalments.
Online (processed in 1-3 working days)
In order to setup a Direct Debit online, you need to confirm:
- You are the named account holder of the account to be debited.
- No other signature apart from yours is required to authorise the setting up of Direct Debits on this account.
Direct Debit guarantee
This guarantee is offered by all Banks and Building Societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.
If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit London Borough of Barnet will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request London Borough of Barnet to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request.
If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit by London Borough of Barnet or your Bank or Building Society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your Bank or Building Society. If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when London Borough of Barnet ask you to.
You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your Bank or Building Society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.
Pay your Council Tax online
Make a one-off payment by credit or debit card.
You’ll need the reference number and postcode from your Council Tax Bill.
There will be no charge for payments made by credit or debit card.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Government’s decision to close all non-essential services, the Council’s Cashier’s Office will be temporarily closed until further notice and are unable to process cheque payments.
Please do not send cheque payments to the Council and instead use one of the other payment methods listed on this page.
You can use the barcode reference on your bill to pay at any Paypoint outlet. You can no longer use this barcode to pay at the Post Office.
There’s no extra charge for using Paypoint.
