Following advice from NHS England, all face to face smoking cessation appointments have now ceased to be offered by all our providers.
All stop smoking support sessions at any venue will be conducted by phone or video call.
Smoking and COVID-19
COVID-19 is a respiratory illness and smoking is a considerable risk factor for severe illness if you contract it.
Sharing of smoking devices greatly increases the risk of spreading COVID-19. Public Health England strongly advises against the sharing of any smoking devices.

If you live, work or study in Barnet, and you are a smoker who is aged 12 and over, there are free and confidential one-to-one support programmes across the borough to help.
Barnet has 38 local stop smoking service providers, see map for stop smoking support locations where you can access this service, consisting of 9 pharmacies and 29 GP surgeries.
You can contact any of the listed pharmacies (via phone), but if you would like to use the service via a GP surgery you must be registered as a patient at that practice. These are also suitable for people who smoke shisha
Help from registered GPs and pharmacies
You can contact any of the listed pharmacies by telephone or online, but if you would like to use a GP surgery service, you must be registered as a patient at that practice.
You will receive up to 6 weeks of free behavioural support with your advisor, you may have to pay for any prescriptions you might need. We can offer you advice on the most cost-effective way to get the medication that you require.
The stop smoking advisor will:
- discuss the treatment options with you
- advise you on a range of replacement therapy, medications and e-cigarettes
- support you to set a quit date and agree treatment options
- offer you regular telephone consultations, where you will be able to discuss your progress
- work with you to overcome any challenges fighting cravings and helping you remain 100% smoke free
Electronic Cigarettes or Vaping (E-cigs or Vapes)
Due to COVID-19 Pandemic restrictions, vape shops are not open to walk-ins, but many remain available online or via phone, so please call or contact them directly.
Electronic cigarettes provide nicotine without the harmful chemicals from cigarette smoke, in a similar way to Nicotine Replacement Therapies (patches/gum/sprays). Experts agree that they are 95% safer than continuing to smoke. Find out more about using e-cigarettes
They are not currently available on prescription from the stop smoking service but, if you would like to use them, we fully support them being included in your quit attempt as they provide nicotine and behavioural support for you while you quit the cigarettes.
Talk to your Stop Smoking Advisor and they will guide you on the best ways to get the most out of vaping.
It is important to always buy vape equipment from reputable retailers, you can search the Find a Vape shop website for these in your area.
Stop Smoking London provides a dedicated telephone service for anyone wanting to stop. This option may be easier, as you can access it anywhere and at a more flexible time.
Note that medications will not be available from this service so you will need to source them yourself.
You can call the helpline to speak to a specially trained advisor. Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm and Saturday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm. If you are a London resident, you should state this on the phone.

Text message support
Stop Smoking London are now also offering a motivational text messaging service to Barnet residents.
They will send to your phone stop smoking motivational text messages to help you to stop smoking. Just enter your details to receive daily tips and encouragement during your stop smoking journey.
We have now partnered up with a leading mobile phone application provider, Smoke Free
The Smoke Free service includes lots of stop smoking techniques and hosts chats with accredited advisors.
You will still need gain access to medications via a provider pharmacy or GP surgery, alternatively you can self-fund these or buy a vape.

You do not need a referral to access the services.
How do I access the service?
During the COVID-19 pandemic you will need to call your surgery / pharmacy or contact them online to book a telephone appointment with the stop smoking advisor.
Does the service include group treatment?
No, currently all support is one-to-one but group sessions may be available at some venues over the coming year, this will be dependent on how long the need for social distancing continues.
Will I be able to access full support during this period?
Yes, all of our providers are now offering the full stop smoking treatment programme over the telephone or video calls. Please contact them direct for further information.
