To support Barnet Climate Action Month, the students at Middlesex University's Architectural Technology course will be showcasing the work they've completed as part of their Sustainable and Inclusive Built Environment Module.

Guided by the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, they have studied how much carbon could be saved by making better use of an existing academic building, and have prepared retrofit design proposals for a high quality, vibrant new learning environment. Through their research, the students learnt how to measure the embodied carbon of the existing building elements and made use of carbon life cycle assessment tools to inform their decision making when selecting new materials for the retrofit design proposals.

Their drawings and images show that a zero carbon future built environment will not be boring. They illustrate how, with a little bit of imagination, a tired old concrete framed building can be transformed into a wide variety of exciting new facilities.

Their work will be exhibited at Middlesex University between the 6th-11th June, 10am-4pm. Please note that on the 6th June the exhibition will only be available in the evening from 5pm.
