New fines if you fail to self-isolate when necessary

You are now required by law to self-isolate if you test positive for Covid-19 or are contacted by NHS Test and Trace and told to self-isolate.

Fines for those not isolating when told to do so start at £1,000 and increase up to £10,000 for repeat offenders.

As cases increase across the country, this law has been introduced to encourage people to comply with self-isolation rules and reduce the spread of coronavirus.

Those on lower incomes who cannot work from home and have lost income as a result will also be eligible for a new £500 Test and Trace Support Payment, operating from mid-October. Please keep an eye on our website for more details in due course.
